What is an ICE Global Cultural Ambassador (GCA)?

ICE Global Cultural Ambassadors (GCA) are people united by passion to:
– share their culture with others
– connect people to understand the world
– break stereotypes and create an more inclusive society

GCA engage in cultural sharing when there is a relevant ICE event. ICE also hosts casual get-togethers and community events to connect GCA with other internationals and locals based in Hong Kong.

What are the volunteering programmes like?

ICE volunteer programmes (also known as projects) takes you to various local schools across Kowloon, New Territories, or Hong Kong Island.

We mostly organise events and workshops for local secondary schools, although we also work with local primary schools, universities, corporates and other NGOs.

You will be invited to share about your culture and experience. The theme or topic varies depending on the audience. In the past, our Global Cultural Ambassadors have shared about topics including:
– Culture Shock
– Myths and Legends
– Social Issues
– Ethics and Justice

What are my roles as a Global Cultural Ambassador?

A Global Cultural Ambassador (GCA) is a culture sharer who introduces and shares about their culture and stories.

The standard format of a session includes a cultural presentation and some interactive activities. GCA are expected to:
– do short presentations on the session topic, relating their presentation to their country of origin; and – conduct casual conversations with participants about their experiences

At certain projects, GCA are also expected to decorate booths to showcase their countries.

Am I qualified to share?

We welcome anyone who is passionate about sharing their culture with others! Please don’t worry, we will host training sessions to better prepare you to meet the students! You are required to attend ONE (1) compulsory training, but you are always welcome to join more if you feel like it!

After that, you will be invited to join TWO (2) volunteer seessions as trial.

Will I get paid as an Global Cultural Ambassador (GCA)?

GCA are not paid. However, a fixed subsidy to cover transportation (and sometimes food) will be provided for each attendance.

GCAS is an excellent opportunity to enrich your CV profile. Outstanding GCA will be given priority to apply for a 3-month internship at ICE.

What other activities can I do with ICE as a Global Cultural Ambassador?

Besides volunteering at school projects, Global Cultural Ambassadors (GCA) are also invited to ICE community events!

Our casual get-togethers are open to our past and current GCA! Make friends with individuals from all over the world with an array of experience.

You are also welcome to organise your own cultural events at ICE if you are interested!

Sometimes, there are also special projects to join. We have invited a few GCA to join us on air for our radio show on the local broadcasting channel Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK).

What sort of community events has ICE hosted for Global Cultural Ambassadors?

We’ve hosted a numerous ICE community events, including but not limited to:
– Board game night
– Hiking at the Peak
– BBQ Party at Ma On Shan
– World Cup Finals gathering
– Indian Pani Puri Night
– Secret Santa – Christmas exchange presents
– German Sauerkraut cooking workshop
– Empathy Card Dialogue

Our GCA are welcome to suggest or host an ICE community event!

What happens after I submit my application?

You will receive a confirmation email shortly upon successful application with an official invitation to our:
– Welcome party (5th October 2024)
– Training day (19th October 2024)
